Here is a space to record your good ideas, large and small, for using technology in the classroom.
And you can get good ideas here from your fellow teachers, too.

to discover and present videos on universal symbols such as fire, water, etc.. Kate allows students to present content from youtube if it enriches her class. They then use these videos while presenting a prayer to the class.

Phil Miller uses a wiki portal at http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/miller to direct his students research

Mike Murphy's Class used Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/frankenstein/frank_modern_2.html
as part of a larger project exploring Frankenstein. Mike developed a worksheet with leading questions that the students answer after reading and viewing the gallery and information at this website. The task is similar to a scavenger hunt.




reddamsix.JPG Lisa Reddam's Freshman Classes used blogs to write about various myths. The blog format let classmates read and comment on each other's myths. One can be seen here.

histres.JPG Nancy Roth's Freshman Classes made newspapers detailing events happening in World History. Nancy requires they use our subscription databases
for source material. Skills she is teaching include using authoritative sources and respecting copyright.

used Big HugeLABS motivational poster tool http://www.bighugelabs.com/flickr/motivator.php
to make posters about the domestic and foreign policies of US Presidents throughout history.
Tom had had previous classes make presentations on this topic, but he noticed that they presentations got bogged down in too much biographical detail on the presidents. To aid the students in focusing only on the policies, he used this tool which only allows 8 or 9 WORDS of text to be inserted in the image.

spanblog.JPGMarjie Murphy's class created group blogs http://readercuriousgeorge.blogspot.com/ as reader's guides to discuss books about Hispanic or Spanish Speaking cultures each group had read. To foster discussion, each group memebr was required to pose a blog question and to answer on of their group mates









schoen.JPG Lora Schoen's freshmen classes created mythology wikis, one can be seen att http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/schoen5.
The students wrote about their assigned myths. The story they wrote had to include mention of 2 other classmates myths, and link to these storiesin the wiki. At the end, the class had an online, inter-connected mythology web.

Marjorie Murphy's Class used demographic statistics to compare countries and decide if country meet their standard for "Best Places"

Physics classes use their TI-83/84 graphing calculators extensively. Students analyze data in ways they could not with non-graphing calculators. In addition to using built in functions, students use a program Lee wrote to solve repetitive calculations in a light bulb efficiency lab. Next year Lee plan's on having the students write the program themselves (with help, of course). When every student has a laptop, we'll probably use spreadsheets to do this work, but in the mean time, the calculators are amazing pieces of technology.

external image eddie_award_smartv_L.jpgLee uses TI SmartView software on computers to project a calculator image on the screen so students can follow along through the difficult parts. CHS has a couple licenses for this software, and both math and science teachers use it.

Remember, "technology" is more than just computers and the internet.
